Schroth Method Edison & Paramus, NJ

Schroth Method

PSSE is Physiothrapy Scoliosis Specific exercises. These exercises are specifically designed to treat an individual curve pattern.

Our trained and experienced therapist will first diagnose your curve pattern. Then develop a personalized plan of care for your curve type.

The Schroth Method is a physiotherapeutic treatment system which uses isometric exercises and rotational angular breath training patterns along with other exercises, to achieve neutral alignment of your spine. You will be able to strengthen the weak muscles and lengthen the tight asymmetrical muscles in your spine. Thereby, attaining your neutral spine alignment. You all also learn to breathe in and to your concavity caused by the curvature of your spine. Which may halt or in some cases decrease the curve progression.

Its goals are to halt progression of abnormal spinal curvature, and in the best case to reverse the curves. If you are suffering from scoliosis, the Schroth Method may benefit you. Contact Jeevam Therapy today to find out more about this service and how they can aid you in your recovery process.

History of the Schroth Method

The system of exercises for scoliosis was developed in the 1920s by Katharina Schroth (1894-1985), and further developed by her daughter Christa Lehnert-Schroth. By the 1960s, the Schroth Method had become the standard non-surgical treatment for scoliosis in Germany. Schroth treatment is currently supported in Germany by the federal health insurance system, and German orthopedic surgeons routinely refer patients for Schroth scoliosis exercise therapy.

What does the Schroth Method help?

The Schroth Method helps to:

  • Attain neutral spinal alignment.
  • Improve self image, especially with teens.
  • Reduction of cobb angle
  • Reduce pain
  • Increase vital capacity
  • May reverse curvatures
  • May halt curve progression
  • Improve posture and appearance
  • Maintain improved posture lifelong
  • Avoid surgery

In most cases these goals are achieved. Only a small percentage of Schroth patients elect to undergo surgery.
