Find Relief for Your Pain In The Neck and Back Caused By Postural Imbalance

Sep10th 2020

Are You Living with Scoliosis? Our Treatments Can Help Relieve Your Pain

Do you have scoliosis? Let our experts screen your back!

Are you living with scoliosis? Do you have a loved one living with this disorder? If so, our therapy treatments can help.

It is no secret that scoliosis can negatively impact one’s posture, thus resulting in pain that can impact daily life. Your spine has 3 curves, which provide support and flexibility, in addition to protecting the nerves running up and down your spine.

Stand up straight, and your neck and lower back will gently curve in, while your upper back will be slightly curved out.

However, scoliosis makes it difficult to achieve this type of posture, making it difficult to stand correctly and resulting in debilitating pain when doing so.

It can sometimes be difficult to determine the cause of scoliosis; Interestingly, there are rare forms that have been linked to previous injuries, muscle dystrophy, and cerebral palsy.

Fortunately, our physical therapy services at Jeevam Therapy can help treat scoliosis so the pain does not become disabling – and in many cases, patients may not even notice it anymore.

How can I tell if scoliosis causes my pain?

You may be wondering, “how can I tell if the pain I’m experiencing is due to scoliosis or something else?” It is difficult to tell if you haven’t received a diagnosis. Some of the most common symptoms include:

  • Back pain
  • Rib pain
  • Inability to stand up straight
  • Slight curve in spine
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Protruding ribs
  • Misalignment of the hips and/or shoulders (where one may look to be higher than the other)

How will you treat my scoliosis pain?

One of our biggest specialties at Jeevam Therapy is scoliosis treatment. We specialize in a specific type of therapeutic exercise that targets scoliosis and works to improve the condition before it worsens.

At Jeevam Therapy, we treat patients with scoliosis by using physical therapy (PSSE – Scoliosis-specific exercises) as a way to prevent further curve progression and relieve tension in the back and ribs by gradually straightening out the spine.

Our therapy treatment is not a “one size fits all” treatment; rather, it is personalized for each individual patient. Our treatments take into account your age, medical history, and the severity of your scoliosis. From there, the necessary exercises are designed to treat your specific needs.

The benefits of this treatment are three-fold:

  1. Pain is reduced.
  2. Curve progression of the spine is halted.
  3. Lung capacity increases.

While scoliosis is common in children, it is possible that it can affect anyone of any age. With children, bracing is also common, as a growing child’s spine is still flexible, making it easier to treat the abnormal curves that this disorder brings to their spines with a brace.

The American Physical Therapy Association states that “the effectiveness of bracing in treating adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) has been well-established, but early detection is key. That’s where physical therapists (PTs) come in.”

Additional Italian-based exercise treatment methods used to treat scoliosis pain at the discretion of your physical therapist include:

  • Italian scientific exercise-approach to treating scoliosis
  • Manual traction
  • Joint mobilization
  • Stretching and strengthening of muscles
  • Stabilization exercises
  • Spinal decompression
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Postural correction exercises
  • Postural education
  • Home exercise programs
